I am inspired by Nature and visual movement and am always looking for the natural design, structure and geometry in my chosen subjects. Every painting offers a new opportunity to challenge myself with a new experience that helps me grow and expand as a painter. My personal goal is to create imagery that convey feelings and emotions with peace and harmony the primary attraction. the intention being to pull viewers into the image or attraction and let them rest awhile in the serenity.
My art background started at a very young age and continued throughout my life as a continuous balance between self-training and applied study with selected teachers, the most important of which was a 4 year Atelier study program with Ra Ariyamitr of Thailand, a master of oil painting in the classic European style and an excellent teacher. It was he who opened up my eyes and creativity to the greatest degree, empowering me to continually progress in my abilities. I developed my love of still life painting during that time.
Teaching is very important to me as I enjoy sharing what I have learned and am learning. Students ask wonderful questions and keep me open and attentive. I have been teaching since 2002.
Pen and Ink drawing are integral to my work as a creator of art rubber stamps since 1997, specializing in original art of Celtic, Irish and Scottish themes, which may be seen at: www.HighlanderCelticStamps.com
My most recent paintings have primarily been about Scottish subjects. When my husband and I vacationed there we fell in love with the country and its people. My husband is mostly Scottish and I am a British Isle blend, so we both resonated with the scenery and the whole experience. We are eager to return, take more reference photos and Plein Aire sketches for my studio work. Meanwhile I still have lots of material to work with that excites me.
